Job Summary: The Safety Officer coordinates the hospital’s Safety Program and setting the direction for providing and maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Provides technical knowledge to other Care New England Operating Units and coordinates system best practices by means of collaboration and partnerships. It oversees the development of corporate safety related policies, management plans, programs and procedures in compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA and other federal, state and local regulations. Interprets regulatory requirements and works with the safety committee and department heads to determine methods and procedures to ensure hospital wide compliance. Provides all types of safety training, education, workplace monitoring, assessment, and inspections consistent with Joint Commission Standards and other governing entities. The Safety Officer provides reports and related documentation in order to comply with such oversight. Operates as a designee for the Security, Safety and Emergency Preparedness Director/Manager at meetings, events, drills and exercises when required and works collaboratively with Women & Infants and Care New England Managers.

Specifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or related field with three to five years’ experience required, preferably in Risk/Safety/Emergency Management in a hospital setting, or equivalent education and experience required. Proficient with PC-based data management and statistical software applications and knowledge of OSHA regulations, Accreditation requirements, and regulatory documentation. Excellent oral/written communications skills and strong analytical abilities necessary. Safety or Industrial Hygiene Certificate desirable. Manual dexterity required for regular operation of computer and other office equipment.
