Job Summary:

Assists the Bariatric Surgery Program with duties including scheduling and coordinating seminars, marketing and outreach, and guiding patients through the Bariatric Surgery process.

Provides good customer service to patient’s check in/check out process. Answers telephone and directs calls as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

At the direction of the Bariatric Program leader, meets with patients to discuss immediate and future timeline for preoperative testing process. This includes explanation of each individual test to be performed, the reason for the test and preparations necessary by the patient. Reviews insurance requirements with patient. Makes recommendation for testing sites and/or schedules appointments for the patient. Sends referrals to providers with the necessary information.

Assists the Program whether the procedure falls within the coverage guidelines of the patient’s insurance plan. Obtains prior authorization for each test, based on the patient’s insurance plan. Assures that all necessary documentation is obtained and all pre-operative requirements are complete by the patient within the timeframe established by the individual insurer.

Responsible for answering phone calls and following up with patients regarding process questions and coordination of appointments with outside providers and testing agencies, etc. Contacts patients several times throughout the process to ensure compliance and alleviate patient anxiety.

Assists the Program maintaining manual process of tracking test results, assuring all testing is complete prior to scheduling surgery and arranges for additional testing if warranted.

Meets with patient after testing is complete to discuss next steps. Schedules surgery, if needed at that time.

Contacts patients prior to surgery to answer any questions that the patient may have.

Maintains high level of knowledge of insurance requirements for the program to ensure proper submissions. Checks patients in and out including verifying demographic information, scanning the insurance card, collecting appropriate copayments/deductibles, obtaining necessary signatures and paperwork and making follow up appointments.

Assists the Program with marketing program and develops relationships with outside providers in order to keep them abreast of the program, develops a rapport and encourages future referrals.

Provides day to day functions including, and not limited to, batching funds at day end, sorts and distributes mail, answers front desk calls and directs appropriately.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Vocational/ Technical training and a minimum of one year’s job-related experience or equivalent is required.
