Job Summary: The Nursery Activities Therapist/Mental Health Worker supervises and cares for infants in the nursery whose parent is admitted to and receiving services at the Day Hospital. The Nursery Activities Therapist/Mental Health Worker must have experience and demonstrate competency in a structed infant care setting such as a day care. Must have the maturity, knowledge, and sensitivity to offer gentle guidance and support to the patients/parents at the Day Hospital while maintaining a professional relationship. The candidate must ensure a safe and therapeutic environment in the nursery through observation, monitoring, interacting, and providing groups. The Nursery Activities Therapist Mental Health Worker works in collaboration with Clinical staff and the inter-disciplinary treatment team (under the supervision of the Nursery Coordinator/ Practice Manager in implementing groups and activities within the Women’s Behavioral Health milieu to meet the educational needs of patients. Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment in the Nursery. Performs other job-related duties as required or directed.
Education: HS Diploma Required; Bachelor's Degree Preferred or combination of equivalent experience and education: Recent experience in caring for infants, ages 1 day to 1 year, in a structured setting. The candidate must demonstrate experience and competency in these areas as the patients will be looking to them as a model and for guidance. Must have and maintain current CPR license including child and infant CPR. Experience in working with mentally ill clients, experience working with activity-based groups preferred. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required. Ability to work independently and effectively manage infant care. Must be proficient in the English language with bilingual communication skills helpful. Able to actively promote a safe, judgement-free environment and communicate effectively with parents in the program while providing feedback and encouragement in a supportive manner.
