Primary Function
Assists manager with supervising daily operations and pharmacy personnel. Acts as a liaison between pharmacy staff and department management. Distributes and balances workload; trains employees; answers employee questions concerning departmental policies/procedures, and directives; resolves complaints, completes performance evaluations, delivers coaching, and assists with hiring and onboarding technician staff; reviews, amends and checks work in progress to ensure methods and deadlines have been met; works with manager on financial and operational improvements. Oversees the Pharmacy Technician Training Program, bench technician team, drivers and specialty pharmacy liaison team.
Responsibilities
- Creates a technician schedule that informs the employees of their shift, position, and vacations. Ensures department personnel complete work assignments, distributes and balances workload equitably, answers employee questions concerning departmental policies and procedures for URAC / ACHC compliance. Supervises and delegates specific work assignments and collateral duties; resolves informal complaints; reviews, amends and checks work progress to ensure methods and deadlines have been met. Hosts a daily technician huddle with technicians and liaisons.
- Oversees the Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Works with training coordinator and department trainers to manage students’ progression through the program. Reviews quizzes and exams and assists with classroom discussions once a week.
- Prepares payroll for submission bi-weekly by viewing, editing, and approving employee’s time. Manages PTO requests and distributes yearly PTO calendar, ensuring compliance with the vacation policy for Care New England Pharmacy.
- Designs and organizes department job descriptions and prepares annual performance evaluations for all technicians in a prompt manner as well as delivering coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action in conjunction with pharmacy manager.
- Participates in the recruiting, screening, interviewing, selecting, and onboarding of pharmacy technicians. Schedules interviews with candidates and takes part in interviewing. Ensures all pharmacy staff complete mandatory trainings.
- Maintains technician HR files according to URAC / ACHC standards.
- Sits on the Care New England Pharmacy Quality Management Committee (QMC). Assists in preparation and submission of monthly QMC data. Attends monthly and quarterly QMC meetings.
- Submits requested documentation for third-party audits. Maintains files of all specialty pharmacy audits. Reports any audit findings to manager and director.
- Provide support for the day-to-day operations of the technician staff. Covering areas if needed due to call outs or staffing challenges. Assists in preparation of staff meeting agendas and provides updates to team during staff meetings.
Job Qualifications and Specifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Two (2) years of college experience or employment experience comparable to college training preferred. At least 5 years of hospital related background and computer operations. Valid RI pharmacy technician registration and National Certified Pharmacy Technician Affiliation required.
