Job Summary: The Manager Health Information Services directs, plans, coordinates, and administers Health Information Management functions for the hospital, supervises staff, and manages all department operations.

The Manager supports the HIM Director in special projects.

** This position is onsite in Providence, RI- NOT HYRBID/REMOTE.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the functions of the Center’s HIS activities to include: chart reviews, quality assurance audits, and provide oversight of the day-to-day operation of the program in each location and train when necessary.

Ensure client records are maintained in compliance with The Center’s HIS policy, licensing requirements, HIPAA and JCAHO standards.

Communicate policies to staff.

Integrate Quality Improvement (QI) efforts with daily HIS functions.

Formulate procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of records.

Oversee the management of Off-Site Records.

Create and improve Center HIS systems and processes on an ongoing basis.

Provide back-up as needed for the HIS Specialist in conducting orientation of new staff to Center HIS processes and procedures.

Play a leadership role on the HIS Committee and in addressing HIS matters.

Maintain knowledge of best practice and external HIS activities and trends; assess the impact of changes and new developments on Center operation and implement as appropriate.

Complete and provide record audits to comply with State, Federal, JCAHO, CARF and Q.I. requirements.

Conduct Q.I recordkeeping audits.

Audit records in preparation for any State, Federal or accrediting body site visit.

Creation and updating clinical and administrative forms.

Work with clinical staff/supervisors/I.S. dept. staff in this process.

Present at Quality and Safety Committee for approval

Ensure psychiatrist and clinical staff’ transcription is processed efficiently and accurately.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly provides the supervision of 11-14 employees in Health Information Services and Transcription services.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Center policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Supervises temporary summer employees to assist in ongoing health information projects.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in related field. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA or RHIT).

Three (3) to five (5) years experience in a supervisory role and medical records technical functions, or equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly recommended.

Excellent human relations and communications skills required.

Working knowledge of regulatory agency requirements and automated health information management systems is preferred.

Experience working in a psychiatric setting.

Knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM IV-TR) terminology and diagnostic codes.
