Job Summary:
The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor serves as a positive role model with good parenting and breastfeeding skills for women and their families who are potentially eligible for the Special Food Supplemental Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC Program). The incumbent will facilitate classes, provide information and materials, and act as resource for clients on breastfeeding experiences and issues. Provides counseling and support, makes referrals to health care providers, and maintains records for program evaluation.
Specifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be current or past recipient of WIC Program benefits and have successfully breastfed at least one infant. Good communication, organization, and interpersonal skills required. Proficiency in the English language required as well as a second language, preferably Spanish.
