Medical Assistant Translator

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant Translator provides translation services as needed to clinical and support staff. Serve as the secretary/receptionist for assigned reception area and perform intakes.

Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Translator Duties:

Treat consumers with respect.

Provide translation services to staff as requested, both in person and on the telephone.

Demonstrate appropriate objectivity in translation.

Demonstrate appropriate body language and boundaries in translation.

Include everything said by both client and staff member in translation.

Be prompt to sessions.

Office Assistant Duties:

Greet and check in clients.

Advise the clinician of the arrival of their appointments.

Answer phone, take messages and assist caller.

Ensure that phones are answered by third ring, in a courteous manner and in a clear speaking voice.

Ensure messages contain correct spelling of names, correct phone numbers and correct brief message regarding the call.

Answer questions and investigate if answer is not known until resolution.

Verify insurance coverage.

File correspondence in charts.

Ensure filing is accurate and completed daily.

Pull charts and folders as needed throughout the day.

Type correspondence and miscellaneous forms.

Open and distribute mail.

Maintain case managers' schedules.

Enter clinical staff schedules on computerized system daily.

Enter medical records that need to be pulled for clinical staff accurately.

Check activity logs for accuracy, comparing to the clinician's schedule.

Update consumer information on computer.

Transfer money received to Accounting.

Prepare client collection sheet.

Ensure reconciliation of monies.

Open and distribute mail.

Open and sort mail accurately and on a timely basis.

Maintain cooperative relationships with other employees, consumers and the public.

Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff

Deal with co-workers regarding problems in a constructive manner

Accept and use direction and supervision

Benefit from constructive criticism

Ensure no complaints received by peers, supervisors and the public.

Attend trainings and conferences, participate on Center committees.

Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended.

Attend mandatory inservice trainings and other trainings required.

Obtain money to purchase RIPTA tickets, filling out update form.

Make copies for staff.

Distributed time sheets to staff.

Distribute paychecks to staff.

Cover for lunch at other reception areas.

Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

General typing skills required. Experience with computers a plus.

Must also possess knowledge of the clinical criteria of Center programs.

Minimum experience - 1 year related experience in social service setting.

Must be bilingual English/Spanish or other required language:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to clients and employees.
