Job Summary:

Performs microscopic examinations of ThinPrep specimens, both gynecologic and non-gynecologic, and reviews relevant patient clinical data applicable to the specimen.

Evaluates diagnostic possibilities and renders cytopathologic diagnoses.

Confers with pathologists and/or manager on difficult cases; submits cases demonstrating abnormalities and all non-gynecologic cases to pathologist for final diagnosis.

Documents diagnostic evaluation of each case read and revises case charges as necessary.

Reviews and electronically signs every final report prior to distribution. Utilizes computer as pertinent to the

cytopathology laboratory adeptly.

Effectively utilizes quality control procedures as defined by hospital policy.

Collaborates with pathologists, physicians, and other hospital staff in providing effective health care for the patient. Participates in the educational process in the RI School of Cytotechnology and maintains proficiency in Cytopathology through participation in educational seminars and proficiency testing.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree required; masters preferred.

Completion of a formal education program in Cytotechnology necessary.

ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist required.

Must be skilled in the use of various lab equipment. Manual dexterity required in processing specimens, handling equipment, etc.

Proficiency in the English language required.
