Primary Function
The Process Improvement Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the organizational performance improvement and innovation strategies for Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. The incumbent plans, directs, and coordinates the resources necessary to provide support to improvement teams and delivering results in specific time frames. Working collaboratively with several departments, assists when appropriate in phases of strategic management. Serves as a resource between internal and external organizations to communicate and facilitate actions necessary to achieve the organization's goals. Educates leaders and other key stakeholders in all performance improvement concepts, including Lean Six Sigma tools and methods. Effectively manages projects, serves on various key committees, and performs other special activities as directed. The Process Improvement Manager will act as a mentor, and coach to CAP and lean leader candidates through projects
Specifications
Bachelor's degree in health care administration, business administration, or other related field
required. A minimum of three to five years of related healthcare experience and proven abilities in project management and change management. Demonstrated analytical skills. Black Belt Certification highly desirable. Must have knowledge of performance improvement systems and previous experience with leading Performance Improvement initiatives, involvement with Six Sigma, or similar methodology. Experience working in women’s health, an academic medical center, a large community hospital, or health system highly desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to make effective presentations to diverse groups. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead, and engage key stakeholders, staff, and external partners. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software preferred.
I. Application of Knowledge and Skill
and innovation. Evaluates opportunities to ensure that the Hospital's long range
objectives are being met and the direction of these opportunities is aligned with CNE
objectives. Identifies and leverages appropriate concepts, new tools, and methods
across projects and business settings. Develops plans and implements a planning
process, utilizing appropriate resources and involving leaders in preparing and sustaining
change. Leads the team to prioritize quality project selection processes based upon
business impact (e.g. reduce risk/cost improve productivity/profitability, financial impact of
implementation.) Applies best practices for introducing, driving, and sustaining major
change initiatives. Presents plan to key stakeholders for business plan approval and
employs various approaches and tools to mobilize commitment and overcome resistance
to change.
B. Provides strategic management and monitoring for the implementation performance
improvement and innovation strategies for Women & Infants' Hospital. Designs and
implements systems for supporting and optimizing growth including an ongoing planning
process and creation of decision support information. Ensures linkage of strategic and
financial planning throughout the process and phase implementation as may be
appropriate. Coordinates and assists key stakeholders in translating and implementing
plans into action steps, timelines, and specific goals. Maintains the business team's focus
on key customer satisfaction factor. Improves other to consider the entire range of factors
that help and hinder key interventions (eg, demonstrates "big picture" thinking) Monitors
service line implementation in accordance with plan and communicates key successes.
C. Educates leaders and other key stakeholders in performance improvement and
innovation concepts and methods. Coaches leaders on developing appropriate
performance improvement and change management techniques to achieve goals.
Assesses need for and provides real time process improvement training for initiative
teams and stakeholders. Supports and researches opportunities for potential
alliances/partnerships for educational advancement of PI methodologies for the
organization and ensures effective communication of new educational opportunities.
D. Communicates performance improvement efforts to varying levels of the organization.
Communicates regularly with team stakeholders and executive sponsors about team
progress toward goal achievement, critical factors and obstacles. Presents plans to key
stakeholders for approval and employs various approaches and tools to mobilize support
for key initiatives.
E. Works collaboratively with various internal departments on performance improvement
initiatives and innovation strategies and assists when appropriate, with strategic project
management. Ensures a unified strategy for new and existing programs and provides
appropriate levels of attention, sharing, and guidance to stakeholders. Oversees project
logistics such as project timelines, agenda development, production and distribution of
meeting minutes, and preparation of reports on project status and activities to various
audiences. Prepares, administers, and manages the overall PI operations and budget as
well as monitors and analyzes budget variances to ensure effective cost containment.
F. Maintains professional growth and development. Stays abreast of current and innovative
trends in performance improvement and innovation. Enhances professional growth and
development through participation in educational conferences, in-services and
workshops, and through review of current literature. Maintains professional affiliations
and participates in various professional organization to keep abreast of latest trends in
proven performance improvement methodologies.
G. Preserves and protects employee and patient rights to confidentiality.
H. Performs other job related duties as assigned or directed.
