Job Summary:                 

The Infection Preventionist (IP) The IP collaborates with teams and individuals in CNEMG physician offices and CNE operating units to create infection prevention strategies. The IP provides training, feedback, and auditing of infection prevention processes and procedures. The IP is responsible for identifying, investigating, monitoring, and reporting healthcare-associated infections.

Education: Bachelors Degree

Experience Minimum of 3 up to 5 Years


Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required. Masters Degree in healthcare field preferred. Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Rhode Island required. CIC certification or experience in infection prevention preferred.  Three to five years experience in nursing required. Excellent communication and teaching skills necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.

Essential Skills:


Manual dexterity and mobility required for physical demands of job, including  frequent and often prolonged period of sitting, standing or walking, and  occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching.  Must be able to push, pull, lift or carry equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.

Job duties

  1. Develops, implements, and evaluates infection prevention programs.
  2. Plans, creates, and designs educational opportunities.
  3. Monitors infection prevention practices.
  4. Stays current on infection prevention and control regulatory and accreditation standards and facilitates compliance.
  5. Performs surveillance activities.
  6. Conducts epidemiologic investigations.
  7. Collaborates with Occupational Health to provide recommendations for work restriction related to communicable diseases/exposures.
  8. Enhances professional growth and development.
  9. Utilizes PI methodology as a means of enacting change.
  10. Works collaboratively with teams throughout CNE.
  11. Preserves and protects employee and patient rights to confidentiality.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
