Support teaching staff in academic, recreation, crisis intervention and social skill building instruction in The Providence Center School.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrate professionalism in communication and collaboration with members of the school and community, including all students, colleagues, families and related agencies.

Exhibit an understanding of the differentiated staffing patterns that exist in the learning environment and the distinctions among the roles and responsibilities of professional and paraprofessional personnel.

Demonstrate an understanding and performs duties in conjunction with school and Center policies and procedures.

Maintain reliable attendance, promptness and dependability.

Respect confidentiality and other professional ethics.

Exhibit sensitivity and understanding of individual and cultural differences.

Provide an appropriate role model for children in areas of dress, language and behavior.

Use effective communication skills (verbal & written) to plan with team members, review studentsí needs and concerns, report student performance and to complete therapeutic hold reports as needed.

Select and use the appropriate channels for resolving concerns.

Demonstrate knowledge of the legal and human rights of children and families.

Maintain appropriate level of professional/personal boundaries with students, families, and colleagues.

Support teachers by participating in instructional opportunities.

Use appropriate strategies and techniques developed by teachers and other professional staff to support individual students' needs.

Usage of developmentally appropriate instructional procedures and reinforcement techniques.

Assist the teacher in planning, modification, and implementation of curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Gather and maintain data about the performance and behavior of individual students.

Demonstrate awareness of basic educational technology.

Demonstrate an understanding of and respect for cultural diversity.

Support a learning environment that encourages appropriate standards of behavior, positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation.

Follow discipline guidelines in accordance with school policy and legal requirements.

Implement positive behavioral supports.

Maintain and monitor compliance with classroom rules, procedures and behavior standards.

Serve as an appropriate role model for children in areas of dress, language, and behavior.

Motivate and assist students in acquiring interpersonal skills, increased self-esteem, and independence.

Exhibit knowledge of health, safety, and emergency procedures of the learning environment.

Demonstrate knowledge of universal health precautions.

Demonstrate knowledge of lifting techniques.

Participate in sustaining a clean, health, and safe learning environment.

Recognize indicators of abuse (substance, physical, sexual, emotional) and demonstrate knowledge of RI reporting laws.

Complete required certifications such as CPR, First Aid, Therapeutic Intervention, etc.

Complete required training (initial and refreshers) in crisis management.

Implement/perform appropriate crisis management techniques, including de-escalation procedures, therapeutic holds, time out, restraint (individually or with other staff), and seclusion according to policy and procedural guidelines and criteria for use.

Demonstrate appropriate Response to Behavioral Crisis.

Intervenes in a calm and timely manner to prevent behaviors from escalating.

Implements prescribed de-escalation procedures.

Uses physical management procedures in accordance with training model guidelines, Center policy, and clientís behavior management plans.

Provide clients with the opportunity to debrief following the incident, as appropriate.

Document crisis interventions in accordance with Center guidelines.

Transport consumers in own vehicle or Center van to planned activities and appointments.

Drive carefully and abide by traffic rules.

Ensure that seat belts are worn by all traveling in Center owned vehicles.

Complete recordkeeping in accordance with Health Information Services (HIS) and other Center requirements and abide by Center confidentiality policy.

Follow a clear, specific, behaviorally oriented IEP plan as required, with parent signature.

Monitor confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.

Complete required reports (i.e. therapeutic holds, incident, anecdotal, etc.).

Follow required office procedures in a cooperative manner.

Initiate and process incident reports as per Center guidelines.

Adhere to Infection Control protocols.

Maintain cooperative relationships with other employees, consumers and the public.

Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.

Deal with co-workers regarding problems in a constructive manner.

Accept and use direction and supervision.

Open to constructive criticism and participate in developing corrective action plans as needed.

Attend trainings and conferences.

Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended.

Attend mandatory in-service trainings and other trainings required.

Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university. Teaching Assistant Certification preferred. Certificate and experience in lieu of degree acceptable

Must also have insured auto and valid driverís license.

Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm.
