Primary Function
Responsible for supervising and overseeing the Pharmacists in order to provide optimum clinical care. Supervises the Lead Pharmacy Technicians and the Pharmacy Technicians in the preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
Responsibilities
Directs and assigns employees’ work activities in department. Posts and assigns open shift on “Bid” shift. Maintains reports in overseeing the responsibilities for part-time and per diem employees work assignments. Monitors Kronos for early, late and unscheduled time off for all Pharmacists. Monitors and evaluates staff performance.
Communicates directly and indirectly with medical, nursing and pharmacy staff regarding medicinal care of patients. Attends all pertinent meetings concerning employees, (including technicians) med management, computer systems and any other meetings as appropriate.
Devises and implements policies/procedures, new systems and services related to pharmaceutical and IV dispensing.
Maintains the current posting of the formulary and IV preparation list. Assures quality pharmaceuticals are used in the most cost effective manner.
Oversees the training of new employees in the day to day policies and procedures. Ensures that all new employees are well versed in computer skills and policies and procedures and are trained in the areas and shifts that they will be assigned to.
Performs duties of staff pharmacist as needed, including covering of all shifts.
Ensures that all employees follow safety procedures including the handling of all hazardous materials and report all work related accidents.
Serves as backup to Director to cover vacations and beeper call.
Supervises all related activities with Butler Hospital patient orders during Butler Hospital Pharmacy off hours. Maintains communications with Butler Hospital regarding formulary and procedure changes to all appropriate Pharmacists.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a minimum of three year’s job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI License is also required.
