Primary Function

Responsible for overall operation of the HME department while ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local inspection and regulatory agencies, as well as JCAHO requirements. Provide direction to employees, professionals and consumers for their particular needs.

Responsibilities

  1. Plans, implements and maintains policies and procedures to ensure quality patient care and services
  2. Schedule, direct and assign employees’ work activities in department. Monitor and evaluate staff performance.
  3. Draft or develop departmental policy and procedures in accordance with the established standards provided by JCAHO or state/federal agencies.
  4. Analyze market data to assess trends which will directly affect future operations of the department. Assess and recommend new product lines and market opportunities.
  5. Utilize inventory control to assess turns of inventory per year. Order products as needed dependent upon season demand and inventory level.
  6. Determine and implement merchandise pricing for retail customers, VNA’s 3rd party payors on contract and other groups. Assist in negotiations with 3rd party vendors.
  7. Evaluate equipment to be purchased, rented or sold. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and repaired.
  8. Analyze needs of consumers and healthcare professionals to expedite proper service/care requested.
  9. Manage billing procedures and accounts receivable to maintain an acceptable level of cash flow. Review reimbursement mandates (Medicare/Medicaid).
  10. Prepare delivery invoices from phone orders for medical equipment from the home health care department, VNA’s and other heath care professionals. Conduct dispatch operation of divers and help organize delivery routes.
  11. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

A bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of five year’s job-related experience or equivalent is required.
