The Vital Statistics Specialist completes and files birth and death certificates according to guidelines established by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Division of Vital Records. Processes, completes, and registers Voluntary Affidavits of Paternity. The incumbent ensures the accuracy of the information, processes certificates, and serves as a resource to the State Bureau of Vital Records. Assists external departments in processes of births, deaths and fetal deaths. Job Summary: The Vital Statistics Specialist completes and files birth and death certificates according to guidelines established by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Division of Vital Records. Processes, completes, and registers Voluntary Affidavits of Paternity. The incumbent ensures the accuracy of the information, processes certificates, and serves as a resource to the State Bureau of Vital Records. Assists external departments in processes of births, deaths and fetal deaths. Specifications: Associates Degree with appropriate clerical skills or at least three years equivalent experience in a healthcare environment. Must have knowledge of Medical Terminology, Word Processing and other computer applications. Knowledge/experience in health information applications preferred. Proficient knowledge of Laws and Regulations established by the State of RI Department of Health, Vital Records, in processing and registering all birth and death certificates preferred. Must be able to type a minimum of 50 words per minute and operate standard office equipment as necessary. Ability to work without constant supervision. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be proficient in the English language. Notary Public in the State of Rhode Island or eligible to become one. Must have flexibility to occasionally work additional,unscheduled hours, including holidays.
