Job Summary:

The Providence Center Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) provides short-term care for patients experiencing an acute psychiatric and/or substance use crisis that could escalate to a point of requiring hospitalization. As an alternative to hospitalization or as a step-down for a transition between levels of care, the CSU’s services focus on stabilizing clients and addresses their mental health and substance use needs.

The Providence Center Crisis Stabilization Overnight Nurse will coordinate intake, triage, and assessment for clients admitted to the CSU and monitor overnight CSU clients for behavioral health, clinical and medical needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Screen, triage and assess clients admitted to the Crisis Stabilization Unit

Utilize physical assessment skills to determine related nursing interventions.

Develop an individualized consumer plan of care.

Formulate nursing diagnosis based on initial assessment.

Perform psychiatric nursing in accordance with appropriate medical protocol.

Plan consumer care with other members of the team.

Consult and utilize nurses with advanced clinical expertise and other appropriate resources to manage consumer care.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Center Policy and legal requirements.

Implement consumer plan of care, evaluate response and update consumer plan of care accordingly.

Administer medications as per prescriber orders.

Coordinate activities regarding consumer hospitalization.

Collaborate with the staff members in providing care to consumers.

Perform recordkeeping in accordance with Health Information Services (HIS) and other Center requirements

Maintain cooperative relationships with consumers, staff and the public.

Communicate with various local agencies and other departments or teams at The Providence Center.

Attend trainings, case presentations and conferences when applicable.

Perform duties in accordance with departmental goals, objectives and standards.

Participate in developing team goals and objectives.

Requirements:

Rhode Island License or Compact Licensure Registered Nurse preferred.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Knowledge and experience with psychotropic medication, and ability to work well with professionals from other disciplines in a team approach.

Experience with addictions populations preferred.

Experience with managed care populations.
