Safety Technician

Primary Function

The safety technician assists in coordinating the hospitals safety program and emergency preparedness activities. Works with the Safety, Emergency Preparedness Manager to provide hazard communication training, education, workplace monitoring, assessment, and inspections consistent with joint commission standards, NFPA, CARF standards, CAP standards, other governing entities, Local, State, and Federal regulations. The safety technician provides reports and related documentation in order to comply with such oversight. Operates as a designee for the Safety, Emergency Preparedness Manager at meetings, events, drills, and exercises when required. The safety technician will be required to report off hours and weekends for both planned exercises and unplanned emergencies if they require safety representation.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, industrial hygiene, public health, or related field with five years’ experience required, preferably in risk/safety/emergency management in a hospital setting, or equivalent education and experience required.
