Job Summary:

The Providence Center Clinical Therapist Community-Providence Police Day Shift will provide outpatient crisis services for consumers by appearing for in-person assessments in the Providence area community. The clinician will be available to work weekend and holiday shifts, stationed at the Providence Police Station but responding into the community for behavioral health assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluate referrals of TPC consumers (any active or inactive consumer of TPC, any employee and/or family member of a TPC Employee Assistance Program (EAP) contract, any member of a health plan/TPC contract, any uninsured Providence resident with a serious psychiatric disability, and also the homeless and transient uninsured).

Confer with community agencies (police, rescue, other emergency rooms), and private health plans requesting behavioral health consultations as appropriate.

Receive and evaluate all appropriately referred clients with behavioral health needs, and make appropriate recommendations regarding treatment and hospitalization according to established clinical protocol.

Provide for and coordinate with fire, police and first responders for the provision of triage and assessment services for individuals in the Providence community experiencing a psychiatric/behavioral health crisis.

Identify and develop diversion opportunities and/or hospitalization for identified persons. '

Provide supportive counseling as necessary to consumer, family and/or significant others.

Consult and make recommendations to the hospital Emergency Department Attending Physician on the appropriate disposition of psychiatric crises of TPC consumers.

Confer with other Center staff involved with the care of a Center consumer.

Provide Day Emergency Services with reports and records of consumers who received treatment during the after hours.

Perform recordkeeping in accordance with Health Information Services (HIS) and other Center requirements within required time frames.

Adhere to Infection Control protocols.

Maintain active involvement in professional and lay mental health organizations in the community.

Maintain cooperative relationships with consumers, staff, hospital personnel, outside agencies and the public.

Attend trainings, case presentations and conferences.

Requirements:

Registered Nurse and/or Master's degree or above in Social Work, Counseling or related field required.

Appropriate license/certification, LMHC, LICSW, RN etc. preferred.

Five years experience in assessment, triage, and crisis intervention of individuals with serious psychiatric disability or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

QMHP eligibility required

Ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and responsible manner; knowledge of psychotropic medications, community resources, as well as knowledge of Center EAP and other health plans which contract with The Center to provide emergency services.
